Starting a column on unit trust investing

about-invest-insight.jpgA reader emailed and suggested I give introduction of how I started investing in unit trusts (mutual funds for some) and also tips for beginners.

This is something that I had been thinking about too. The only consideration is how to present the information and add value to them.

There are many sites that provide information on how to start unit trust investing. FundSuperMart’s school is one such example.

My idea is to blend together part experience, part guide and part factual. Watch for this series on Unit Trust Investing which I will intersperse with my series on Technical Analysis.

Sinapore Investing Sites

ideas.jpgSince starting this blog, I had been looking around for informative sites or blogs covering investment in Singapore.

So far I must say it is disappointing.

There are a number of day trading blog which are pretty good but I have not seen any good investing sites.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against day trading. Once upon a time I trade actively too. However I stopped, finding it too stressful for my liking.

There are too many US-centric investing sites around. If you come across any good Singapore or at least SEAsia/Asia investment sites, please share.

Weekly Market Round Up

crystal-ball1.jpgAlthough I hardly change my unit trust portfolio from month to month, I consider myself an active investor.

Every week I take a quick look at the market to see the major theme and the direction the market is moving.

Using this information I then decide whatever to buy, hold or sell my units.

My method is quick and simple. Using the market indices chart from Yahoo Finance, I look at its movement and apply some technical analysis. If I have more time, I browse around for news to look for overarching trends and themes.

My plan is to update and share some of my analysis weekly.

Introduction to Invest Insight

about-invest-insight.jpgI had been investing for almost 8 years with mixed result. Recent years had been good, primarily because of the raising market. Returns from some of my investment are now fueling my business ventures.

While not an expert, I consider myself knowledgable in investing and finance topics.

In the past few years I had distanced myself from active equity trading, switching to unit trust investing. Reason is simply because I’m spending more time with relationships that matter and my business. However I still do reasonable amount of reading, research and manage my portfolio.

In Invest Insight, I want to share what I’m doing - my reading, research, my portfolio as well as topics related to investing.

Since I now hold mainly unit trusts, my posts would cover topics like market condition, sector, trends, etc. The topics will frequently be geared toward the Singapore market, where all my investment are at the moment.

Nowaday I spend a lot of time with my business in China. Consequently I will also look at the China market environment. At the same time I am also looking for avenues to expand my investment elsewhere.
